Orlando – If you can stand the heat – usually in the 90s – the month of August provides a very affordable time at any number of theme parks in this Florida city. Disney World, Universal Studios, Seaworld and Wet ‘N Wild are just a few of the most popular.

Washington D.C. – With just the Smithsonian Institution and the Mall, there are innumerable opportunities for learning about science and history. With all the other attractions like the National Gallery and the Air and Space and Museum, you and your family can take a quite affordable and interesting vacation in the nation’s capital.

Houston – A world class city with dozens of museums and close proximity to the gulf coast beaches of Galveston island, this Texas city is an excellent vacation destination. Houston is also the center of the American space exploration effort and a visit to the headquarters of NASA is an informative yet affordable diversion for any family.

Minneapolis – If a cooler climate is more to your liking, try heading off to this beautiful city located in the northern part of the United States. Not only are their plenty of outdoor options – Minneapolis is home to a dozen lakes – but also to the Mall of America. The city also boasts a thriving bike culture so it is quite affordable to get around to all of its attractions.

New Orleans – Admittedly, life in this venerable, old city revolves around the downtown French Quarter and Bourbon Street with its music, festivals and restaurants. Still, with 300 years of history, the city has learned a few things. Visitors can also take in the world famous zoo, the defunct mint or any number of museums. And, as one of the top ten visited cities in the U.S., the Big Easy is also easy on the pocketbook.
